Olatunji Chiropractic - IL

Morris Mandel once said, “A name is the blueprint of the thing we call character. You ask, What’s in a name? I answer, just about everything you do.” Let me start by introducing myself. I am Dr. Tunde Olatunji, DC, owner of Olatunji Chiropractic in Arlington Heights, IL. I am the youngest of a first generation immigrant family from Nigeria. We immigrated to the United States when I was a child and I grew up in Wisconsin. Little did I know, the inception of Olatunji Chiropractic would begin in my adolescent years when I knew chiropractic was my calling at the age of 15.

I always knew I wanted a space of my own to serve the community, but I didn’t know what to call it. Originally, Olatunji Chiropractic was not on the list of potential names. When I moved back to the Midwest in 2019, my parents advised me against naming it Olatunji Chiropractic for fear the foreign name would deter people. The community that I started my business in (Arlington Heights, IL), isn’t very ethnically diverse and my parents worried that the name would prevent people from coming to the office. I absolutely love my parents and understand they were looking out for my best interest. I gave them grace in understanding they were viewing America through immigrant eyes of yesteryears. Much to their chagrin, I proceeded with naming it Olatunji Chiropractic, signed my lease January of 2020 and opened the doors October of 2020.

What can be said about the year 2020 that hasn’t already been said; unprecedented, unpredictable, and unreal. When people hear I opened my office in 2020, their response is usually, “not a great time to start a business” or “I can’t believe you started a business in 2020”. To some it may not have been a great time, but it was my time and I still believed in the dream my 15 year old self had.

At Olatunji Chiropractic, we recognize that the patient’s time is important. We have implemented systems that allow our office to run with the utmost efficiency with a strong emphasis on service. The efficiency and flexibility in the office scheduling allows for easy access for same-day appointments and/or rescheduling directly from our website. Our goal is to serve our community and never have to turn someone away.

I had to overcome the fear of wondering if my parents were right and I shouldn’t have used our last name. I had to overlook the fact that the vast majority of the community didn’t look like me and worked to make my name known during a time when people weren’t going outside. I had to look my newborn son in the eyes and say “dada will not fail you”.

Let me reintroduce myself. I am Dr. Tunde Olatunji, of Olatunji Chiropractic. “Olatunji” is both a surname and given name of Nigerian/Yoruba origin meaning “a combination of nobility, prestige, success and wealth reawakened”. So what is in a name? EVERYTHING!
